Hershey Park - Hershey, PA
Hershey, PA
Time needed: 3-4 days
What to Expect: Our family loves a good amusement park, and I must say, Hersheypark does not disappoint. With an incredible mix of thrill rides, family attractions, and plenty of options for younger kids, it’s a destination that truly has something for everyone. The best age to visit really depends on your child’s love of rides—kids who enjoy roller coasters and bigger attractions will get the most out of the experience, but there are also plenty of rides and play areas for younger visitors.
No trip to Hershey is complete without visiting Hershey’s Chocolate World, where families can enjoy the free chocolate factory tour, create their own candy bar, and browse one of the sweetest gift shops you’ll ever see. Beyond the park, the town itself is absolutely charming, complete with streetlights shaped like Hershey’s Kisses and hotels that smell delightfully like chocolate—a detail kids and adults alike will never forget.
Pro Tip: For the best experience, consider visiting on a weekday in late spring or early fall, when crowds are smaller and temperatures are more comfortable. If your children are still quite young, Sesame Place Philadelphia is just a short drive away and makes a fantastic addition to your trip. It’s the perfect option for little ones who may not quite be ready for the bigger rides at Hersheypark.

San Diego Zoo - San Diego, CA
San Diego, CA
Time needed – 5-7 days
What to Expect: San Diego is a great family destination, offering the perfect combination of beautiful weather, incredible attractions, and endless outdoor fun. From building sandcastles at Coronado Beach to exploring Balboa Park and taking a harbor cruise, there is no shortage of activities for kids of all ages. But the true highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the world-famous San Diego Zoo, where our kids could have happily spent multiple days exploring the incredible exhibits and seeing animals from around the globe.
The best time to visit is during the spring or fall, when temperatures are mild and crowds are smaller. San Diego is wonderful for kids of all ages, but we think elementary and middle school-aged children tend to appreciate the attractions the most. Younger kids will love the zoo, beaches, and hands-on museums, while older kids will enjoy attractions like USS Midway Museum and nearby LEGOLAND California Resort.
Pro Tip: Purchase a Go City Pass or combo attraction tickets in advance—it can save your family a substantial amount, especially if you plan to visit multiple attractions.

Space Camp - Huntsville, AL
Family Space Camp – Huntsville , AL
Time needed – 3-4 days
What to Expect:
U.S. Space & Rocket Center Family Space Camp was, without question, one of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve ever shared with my oldest son. Even as an adult, it remains one of my all-time favorite memories, and I already know I’ll be back with my younger kids as soon as they’re old enough. From simulated space missions and astronaut training exercises to building rockets and tackling engineering challenges, every moment is immersive, exciting, and incredibly fun.
This is the perfect trip for curious kids, ages 8+, especially those who thrive with hands-on learning. The program does an amazing job of making science, technology, engineering, and teamwork come alive in a way that textbooks simply can’t match. Families work together throughout the experience, solving problems, completing missions, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Best of all, the program is all-inclusive, with lodging, meals, and activities bundled together, making it a surprisingly stress-free adventure for parents.
Pro tip : Book as early as possible, especially for summer sessions, as Family Space Camp dates fill up quickly. Also, consider arriving a day early so you can fully explore the museum before your program begins.

Glacier National Park, MT
Glacier National Park, MT
Time needed: 5-7 days
What to Expect:
Glacier National Park is, quite simply, one of the most breathtaking places our family has ever visited. Towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and endless opportunities for adventure make it an unforgettable destination for families who love the outdoors. Some of our favorite moments were spent on the park’s beautiful nature walks and family-friendly hikes, where every turn seemed to reveal another postcard-worthy view. It’s the kind of place that leaves both kids and adults completely in awe.
The best time to visit is from late July through early September, when most trails, roads, and activities are fully open. While families with children of all ages can enjoy Glacier, we think it’s especially magical for kids ages 6 and up, particularly those who enjoy hiking and outdoor adventures. Beyond the incredible scenery, there is no shortage of activities, from driving the iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road and horseback riding, to fishing, hiking, and thrilling whitewater rafting excursions.
Pro Tip: Glacier rewards families who come prepared. Know your children’s hiking abilities before setting out, carry both bug spray and bear spray (and understand how to use them), and always follow park safety guidelines. Goonies Adventure – Astoria, OR

What to Expect: Astoria is one of those hidden-gem coastal towns that feels like it was made for family adventures. Sitting at the mouth of the Columbia River, it combines history, ocean scenery, and hands-on outdoor experiences that kids genuinely love. One of the highlights for our family was the chance to go on a real-life Goonies adventure, visiting filming locations from the classic movie like the famous house and nearby landmarks, which instantly brings the story to life for kids (and nostalgic parents).
Beyond the movie magic, Astoria is packed with kid-friendly activities. Tide-pooling along the nearby coastline is a must-do experience, where children can discover starfish, anemones, and other marine life during low tide. The town also offers riverfront parks, the Astoria Column (with its spiral climb and rewarding views), and the Columbia River Maritime Museum, which is surprisingly engaging for kids who love ships and sea stories.
